Like other BioWare franchises, Dragon Age fans can create a single, continuous canon across games that will affect what happens in each subsequent installment. One of the advantages of shipping a year after everyone else is that we get to see how everybody responds to these things, during the new generation. We’ve thought about it, we’ve looked at it, the SmartGlass stuff, the Kinect, the PS4’s Move and all that. The question of developing for the Xbox One arose, and Lee spoke to the specific features that we might get to see: So that was a pretty big shift, especially to bring in a fourth one as well with the Qunari. It fuses and ripples along the entire story and all the side bits and pieces as well, with recordings and such as well. And playable races have broad-reaching impact on game development. So this extra time will allow us to do even more of that than we would have previously, along with bringing in playable races. Taking something from 90 to 95 per cent is just incredibly difficult and it requires a lot of time and focus and energy to do it. But the other thing you use time like this for in development is just to hone and polish so much more.

The scope of what you can give to the player is really important in terms of how much they can enjoy and get into the world, so we’ll be able to do more of that with the time that we have. I think we’ll just do more of what we were doing originally – more space, more content. Lee was questioned about the delay of Inquisition and what Bioware has been working on with the extra time: So you will see a lot of those impacts coming through, both very large and very small as well. The world is really a character as well if you think about it, and how that world is set up by the player as ‘their’ world is really important to us, so we wanted to make sure that… You know, one of the primary reasons that we did the Keep, is that we’ll know when the player sets up their world that’s the world they get.
